Preteen Therapy

The upper elementary and middle school years can feel like a constant storm of academic, social, and personal stressors. Many preteens struggle to find where they fit in, feel pressure to meet expectations, or constantly compare themselves to their peers. Others may experience dips in self-esteem, especially when navigating learning differences or changing relationships.

These years can be overwhelming—and preteens don’t have to navigate them alone.

I work with preteens who may be experiencing:

  • Anxiety and stress

  • Depression

  • Anger

  • Low distress tolerance

  • Social difficulties and friendship challenges

  • Relationship struggles with parents

  • Low self-esteem related to academic performance or learning differences (such as dyslexia or ADHD)

  • Low self-confidence

A personalized approach.

I use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and expressive arts techniques to help preteens build confidence, develop coping skills, and feel more capable in handling life’s challenges.

For many preteens, putting feelings into words can be difficult. This is where expressive arts therapy can be especially powerful. By using art as a tool within CBT, we can explore emotions, visualize coping strategies, and create meaningful, tangible reminders of the skills learned in session.

I will work closely with your child to find an approach that feels comfortable, engaging, and effective for them.
